You need to have something new and important to say. If your client simply wants to promote a product or service because it’s not selling well at the moment, you can’t just write about its benefits as you would in an ad or brochure.
Hello. Although I personally reckon this post is a bit prescriptive (I prefer devs to just say Hey, I’ve made a NEW THING! Here it is!, there are some good tips regarding content to possibly include. (Just, y’know, avoid doing the robot thing. I get 50+ PRs on a good a day (on a bad day, I get more), and many of them look identical in structure and that’s a FIVE-ALARM WARNING to bin every one of the things.) In terms of format, though, speaking as a journo, sending me a Word document is a really great way to get me to immediately delete your PR. Send the text in the *body* of the email, so I can easily access and search it later. Do not make me load up some other app or even fire up Quick Look to view your copy. (Also, a *huge* number of devs I know don’t use Word these days, threatening any fancy formatting. PDF’s fine for an online press kit, though—no problems copying and pasting from it, assuming you’ve done the PDF right.) And I’m sure this sounds grumpy as hell, but when you’re bombarded by email, you need to be able to filter things very quickly. Easy to use online format. Paypal payment a breeze. The Press Release will be sent in the morning. We’re looking forward to seeing the news about the Heated Mouse Pro all over the Internet! Thank you!
Some public relations firms send out video news releases (VNRs) which are pre-taped video programs that can be aired intact by TV stations. Often, the VNRs are aired without the stations’ identifying or attributing them as such.
The first paragraph (two to three sentences) should sum up the press release, and the additional content must elaborate it. In a fast-paced world, neither journalists, nor other readers, would read the entire press release if the start of the article didn’t generate interest.
** You can sort the above table according to your preference. Just click on the appropriate cell header. By default I have listed the sites by page rank. You can sort by Rating, Traffic, Sites Linking In, or by Name.
After the title, use a paragraph or two to describe your company with 5 or 6 lines each. The text must describe your company, its core business and the business policy. Many businesses already have professionally written brochures, presentations, business plans, etc. That introductory text can be put here.
When it comes to content, sometimes old school can be a good thing (namely, when it comes to old school rap or Throwback Thursday on Instagram). But when it comes to your company’s public relations strategy, being old school isn’t advantageous for your business or your brand.

Truvaro is proud to announce to have a very wide range of safari tours in Africa. We provide everything for every budget. For a small budget safari to luxury safari package. Take the change to be flexible in your choice of how long your safari should be.
Simply put, if you are able to package information about your book into a format which grabs a journalist’s attention, make it so they don’t have to put much work into your article to publish it, and it seems like it would be of interest to their audience, then Bingo! You’ve won the holy grail of free publicity.
But you have to be patient. Some publications may take several months to publish your press release. And then there are other publications that will print your release in a few days. It all depends on your news and their schedule.
I’ve been searching for information and prices for eRelease and PRNewswire and this is the best article with explanation that I found. it’s a little disappointing that press releases don’t offer SEO value any more. However, with my restaurant marketing agency, press releases are still valuable for local and regional exposure to journalists and media outlets. Thanks again for the great info.
Well, PR.com has articles on both topics in their articles database. While some of the content is a bit outdated, it is another free offering from their “one-stop shop” for business services and press release distribution tools.
Seth Godin is often quoted as saying Content Marketing is the only marketing left. The real truth is this. Useful marketing is the only marketing people will tolerate and content marketing can be very, very useful. However, even when you have the time to produce the content, that doesn’t always mean your mind is right […]
PR Newswire has increased their pricing (again). A 500 word press release is now $1,000 plus membership. Neil Brown. Not sure about the weird reference, but PRweb costs $200-$300 each with a quantity purchase, and Business Wire costs $500/each but is required for public companies.
Very nice and relevant post. Can you also explain how to get it published? Do you write keeping a publisher in mind? Or do you write and send to many publishers, to see who is liking the story and ready to publish? Do the publishers charge?
Given that none of the releases was picked up by any site that might be considered to be the source of a valuable link, it seems that there is little value in these services for link building. However, some of the sites do provide links and a few allow you to tailor the anchor text. (If you’re not familiar with ‘dofollow’ or ‘nofollow’ links, a good rule of thumb is that the ‘dofollow’ or ‘followed’ links are the kind that usually give some SEO benefit and ‘nofollow’ links generally don’t.) Most sites either didn’t give a link or gave a ‘nofollow’ link.
Hi Sam! Thank you for the comment. The rule to always follow with a press release is if you don’t have something impressive to share/show, then don’t. It’s great that you have art assets done, but I’m not sure if that is enough to go on. Perhaps if you had a free, playable demo in addition to the art assets, or were inviting people to a beta, etc., then you could for the announcement-type press release, but without those extra, impressive items, I may hold off. Hope that helps.
