For any well-written release with genuine news, a paid press release service is the most cost-efficient way to earn legitimate media placements, confirmed by valid media monitoring and measurement reports. If you use your own media contact list as your primary method of targeting specific journalists and news outlets, the paid news release services can and should be used to supplement and backstop your targeted media relations efforts.
Journalists are generally taught to get as many of the five Ws (who, what, where, why and when) in the opening line of news stories, so if you want examples of great first lines for press releases, look no further than your daily newspaper.

3. You’ll get a pretty report. The release distribution service(s) you choose will send you graphs and charts that detail how far and wide your news has spread. Of the three releases that PR Fire accepted, all three appeared on page one of Google search results for the phrases we searched on. For the runners up, at least one of the releases on those sites appeared on page one. Note: News Wire Today appears to be a copy of PR Zoom, but on a different domain name.
The list of free pr sites is GREAT – I thought I’d done most of the ones that are out there that get ranked in Google, but you had some additional ones that I used after reading this – and they were easy. OpenPR.com and Newsvine. Both seem to be solid and reputable, I’ll be curious to see if we show up in Google after using them!
Don’t send large bulk emails. Some channels don’t want any email attachments or accept press releases only via their website. Find out about their preferences and send either individual emails or BCC’ed emails to small groups with similar requirements. Make sure your press release reads well; concentrate on improving relevance and usefulness of the content. Most importantly, though, it should be short. A long press release will be hard to read, even if it is interesting, the reader is likely to stop reading at a certain point. So, make it short – it’s as simple as that.

Write it down. Take notes as the person answers your questions — you want to be sure to quote the person accurately in your story. It’s OK to ask the person to repeat what they said or ask them what they mean if you don’t understand them the first time. The main thing is to get it right.

Sure, I had thousands of links to pickups of various press releases – and some of the headlines have tens of thousands of impressions. But again, when you track that down to ROI…I have yet to find anything significant.
It’s important to know that while organisations use press releases to promote their goods and services, they’re not adverts. In fact, journalists are quick to spot organisations who dress something up as news in order to get free advertising.
Send your release by email, and use formatting sparingly. Giant type and multiple colors don’t enhance your news, they distract from it. Put the release in the body of the email, not as an attachment. If you must use an attachment, make it a plain text or Rich Text Format file. Word documents are acceptable at most outlets, but if you are using the newest version (.docx), save down a version (.doc). Newspapers especially, are on tight budgets now, and many have not upgraded. Use PDF files only if you are sending a full media kit with lots of graphics. Don’t type a release on letterhead, then scan it and email a jpeg of the scan––that’s a waste of your time and the editor’s. Just type the release straight into the email message.
In the body of the email, explain what is happening, when and where, who is involved, how it’s done and why it’s newsworthy. Make sure to offer all necessary information – including important dates, names, and locations.
