send a press release to the associated press press release statement

WASHINGTON — Demand Progress, Fight for the Future and Free Press Action Fund, which have organized many of the largest online protests in history, have announced Operation #OneMoreVote, an internet-wide day of action on Feb. 27.
At the end of the release, you need to indicate that the release is ended. The usual of transmitting your release is via fax, and this is the best way to let journalists know they have received the entire release. Type End on the first line after your text is completed. If your release goes over one page, type MORE at the bottom of the first page. Then retype the title and the date on page two, so there is no question which release the second page goes with.
As with most good writing, shorter is usually better. Limit yourself to one page, though two pages is acceptable. This will also force you to condense your most salient information into a more readable document — something journalists are always looking for.

So if your story is about the the launch of the first financial planning consultancy for women, say exactly that. Women cash in on financial planning might sound like a better headline, but may mean nothing to a busy journalist scanning their inbox.
Paying for news distribution is valued by corporations and usually proves to be beneficial. Corporate clients like to see lots of pick-up coverage and paid news distribution scores with the full court press time and time again. However, if you are doing a news release regarding a court proceeding, a number of the paid news outlets will not print your news release. Also, when you are promoting entertainment – shows, performances, events – you want to focus on your core audience. The broadside approach of PND can miss the mark and the consumer you wanted to reach, gets by you.
For example, a while back I received a press release containing the following sentence: Release 6.0 doubles the level of functionality available, providing organizations of all sizes with a fast-to-deploy, highly robust, and easy-to-use solution to better acquire, retain, and serve customers.
Writing a press release is fun only when you have an interesting subject to talk about. Readers are always looking forward to read new stories and as long as your creativity sparkles in every anecdote you tell, your readership will definitely become big. To write your news story faster, you should consider using the press release templates, a category of business templates designed to make your writing task easier. The following is a list of useful sample Press Release Templates for free download.
TITLE: Keep it short and enticing, and use the active voice. Avoid including too much scientific detail in the title. For example, “Cancer cells communicate through a new molecular messenger” is a better option than “Microvesicle-derived microRNAs are important for intercellular signaling in tumorigenesis”.

Hi Keith, thank you for the comment. This is all great insight and I appreciate you taking the time to post it here. Because both you and Craig posted similar comments, I want to make sure I clarify the intention of this post. This post is meant as a guide for how to correctly format a press release for general distribution using AP Style guidelines and other best practices. It is not meant to provide tips for how to contact writers. As you allude to in your post, and as I preach on my site, sending a template-driven message to every journalist you reach out to, is not a good idea. Each message you send should be personalized and tailored to the interests of that journalist’s audience. In regards to what format you use for your press release. Journalists have their preferences as to which format they like to receive press releases in. I’ve worked with writers that span the gamut on this. That said, I think your points about copying and pasting the text into the body of your email over a attaching a Word document are completely valid. When I recommended Word in the previous comment, I was speaking to the specific context of general distribution, i.e., when you submit your press release to sites like Games Press. (Games Press requests Word document attachments as its preferred method to receive press releases in it’s submission instructions to avoid running into copying and pasting issues: http://www.gamespress.com/about_howtosubmit.asp). Looking back on my comment, I think I could have been way clearer though 🙂 Apologies for that. Again, I appreciate both your and Craig’s input here. It’s great to hear this feedback straight from journalists.
I’d recommend pitching the writer first, with an angle specific to their beat. If a case needs to be made to the editor, it can fare better coming from the writer, who’s already had an opportunity to work out an angle with the PR rep. As an editor, I’m more likely to prioritize emails coming from those I have personal relationships with. These have been built over the years from the days when I was the writer presenting to my editors. Starting a new relationship with me as an editor, the most successful pitches have been those offering high profile interviews (editors that still write columns will want to take these for themselves before passing them off to junior writers) or highly specific content, like an original guest contribution. If you’ve never written a press release before, you’re in luck: The Internet is chock-loaded with examples and models you can use. More than likely, someone has already composed a press release on the same topic that you can use for inspiration. Don’t copy — but do soak up their style and manner of ordering the content.
The next two to three paragraphs of your press release should contain the rest of the story. This should be additional details, a bit of product or company history as well as any more information they would need to know about your press release topic.
