Here’s a link to my favorite press release that I wrote for The Bethel Inn Resort’s 100th Anniversary a couple years ago. Celebrating an anniversary is a newsworthy event, especially if it hits the century mark. I particularly like this release because it brings into context other major events of 1913. Carrying on the major events theme of 1913, the resort posted a This Day in History-1913 at the front desk. I discovered that the first crossword puzzle was published and that Robert Mondavi was born (parking a wine special in the tavern), among other exciting happenings, including the institution of the dreaded federal income tax.
We used our first release as a test to get a feel for the sites, having formed an opinion (and to avoid wasting time on sites that didn’t meet our goasl), we carried out subsequent tests on the top twenty or so sites.
The short of the long (many great points mentioned in this article) is that make sure you are looking to distribute a press release for the right reasons and not to try and gain the system. When you do it properly, you can certainly earn excellent rewards.
If we concisely talk about writing the press release, then it should read like a news story written from the perspective of a third person in an informing tone. Also, the sources and quotes must be cited with the information to make it more authentic and genuine in the eyes of the audience. Most of the companies try to keep the press releases succinct while some of them are lengthy. Regardless of its length and size, a press release should cover the entire information and should have enough content to convey the complete and clear message.
In the 1830s, France had several specialized agencies. Agence Havas was founded in 1835 by a Parisian translator and advertising agent, Charles-Louis Havas, to supply news about France to foreign customers. In the 1840s, Havas gradually incorporated other French agencies into his agency. Agence Havas evolved into Agence France-Presse (AFP).[4] Two of his employees, Bernhard Wolff and Paul Julius Reuter, later set up rival news agencies, Wolffs Telegraphisches Bureau in 1849 in Berlin and Reuters in 1851 in London. Guglielmo Stefani founded the Agenzia Stefani, which became the most important press agency in Italy from the mid-19th century to World War II, in Turin in 1853.
Hello Dominic. Thank you for the comment. When you email any writer, editor, reviewer, etc., your email should ALWAYS be tailored to that person and the readership of the publication that he/she writes for–as you mention in your note. It should be personalized to the individual you are writing to and explain why that person’s readership will love your game (i.e., your tailored pitch). As for your press release, it can be copied and pasted below your main email, or you could post it on an online press kit and link to it from your email. In this online press kit you could also include your screenshots, trailer video, etc.
This is a little obvious, but you need something newsworthy to issue a press release, otherwise who cares? Have a look at Canadian ecommerce company Well.ca and their impressive list of awards for which they’ve garnered significant media attention:
Regardless of whether you’re using free PR services or premium options, the above sites are leaders at what they do, with extensive networks, simplicity in the submission process, and additional guides and resources to help clients create the best possible content and maximize the impact of each PR they distribute.
The second and subsequent paragraphs comprise the body of the press release. They should contain orderly, more detailed and important information. The body often contains quotes from others to support your message (i.e., customers, clients, staff, peers, donors, or industry experts.)
Press releases aren’t what they used to be. Marketers can’t view them as a vehicle to “get picked up by the Wall Street Journal” and solicit coverage by other mainstream journalists anymore. Social media, direct engagement and curation tools have largely replaced the press release in this avenue. Yet, that doesn’t mean you should turn your back on the press release distribution altogether.
You must limit your press release to one page (or two, if you must), but that doesn’t mean you can’t show people how to learn more. Providing relevant links to your company’s website, where prospective writers can learn more about your mission and what you’ve already accomplished, is a crucial element to the release. Don’t make writers search on their own for more information — guide them as quickly as possible to your website, and keep their interest piqued.
With many press release distribution companies, they include ‘reports’. Keep in mind that these reports are strictly used as ‘proof of distribution’ of your news. Few are picked up and they should be expected to be.
You might be able to rank a press release in Google for a non-competitive term, but in general, I don’t expect it. Nor do I expect to receive any referral traffic. If either of these things happens, I consider it a bonus.
OK, so that’s all great, but just what, exactly, is considered newsworthy these days?  Online news sites and search engines have made it easier for anyone’s news to grow legs, but what if you want to increase your opportunities to make an impact?  Try answering these questions when you sit down to write your next press release:
Example: A home security company is launching a new website with improved useability and customized features. Since the news is general and not talking about a specific product or service, we’ll usually point the links back to the company’s home page.

We conduct research studies throughout the year on various topics that we feel are relevant and of interest to our target audience. We sent out a press release a couple of months ago featuring our data monitoring survey that received a lot of positive feedback. It was picked up by various publications, including TLNT and Recruiter.com.
To be exact, press releases actually draw our attention and make us read about the trending events and happenings from around the world. These press releases are usually used by professionals with the core reason of building public relations and gaining publicity. In the proceeding article, we are going to discuss about how to write a press release, how it works, its samples and formats along with some more important information and tips. So, without further a due, let us begin.
There is a lot of debate whether or not press releases are worthwhile for new and upcoming ecommerce merchants anymore. We have heard good arguments on both sides, and to be perfectly honest, for most online store owners it’s one of those tactics that could be a hit or miss, but if it hits, it could result in a major press launch for your brand. For example, BeardBrand launched their store and never looked back literally the day an article about beard grooming for men mentioned them and was published in the New York Times.
Press release templates are document models which are used to tell new subjects to the target audience. Overall, a press release is news originating from a business, an organization, a new startup, or an established entity. The purpose of the news story is not to persuade a reader to make a purchase of something at all; rather. You may also see Media Schedule Templates.
PR-USA allows keyword anchor text (be careful not to over-optimize) and automatic URL links. One glitch I found with PR-USA is they randomly published one of my press releases on a different website. The good news is my dofollow link is in tact, but the Gudelnews.com home page is a PR3, not the stronger PR5 I was hoping for from PR-USA.net.

Frequently publishing online press releases generates reach and visibility. As little as 2-3 releases a month can already have a great impact on your business and confer you with significant advantages over your competitors.
Your business networking groups – If you have been attending local business networking groups, chances are some of the members work in the local PR scene. If not, ask some of your group members if they know of any PR agents.
As the internet has gained prevalence the way journalists like to be approached has also changed. A format suggested by Kristen Nicole, a former Mashable writer who is now the Senior Managing Editor of SiliconANGLE.com. is sending one sentence as to why this story works for my publication, and 5 bullet points for context. Kristen also recommends pitching writers directly over pitching editors saying:
