A well-written press release is the first step in getting some attention for your new album. Use this template to help you organize your information. Note that this template was written with bands and indie labels in mind as the writers and the media in mind as the readers. PR folks and radio pluggers will want to take a slightly different approach with their press releases, and one- sheets for distributors and stores should also be slightly different.

Whether you run a digital marketing company or a record label, press releases are critical. Ideal for notifying the media and your readers that something new and exciting has taken place within your company, press releases can be used to announce new hires, partnerships, product launches, and more.
It’s important with any release to ensure you’re writing for the appropriate audience, and straight news tends to be targeted toward business journalists, news editors, assignment editors and investors, as well as current and potential customers. For this reason, it’s important to focus on presenting your news in a straightforward and easy-to-read manner.
As you are not writing to your target audience directly, you need to write your press release in the third person. So “ABC Ltd has signed a £5 million deal with XYZ Ltd” not “We’ve signed a deal with…”
While press releases tend to follow the same basic format (see “Format of a press release”), how they are written depends on what kind of news is being announced.  Many online PR resources recognize the following six types of press releases:
Hi Kari, I read your article and am really curious about how to get the word out about our launch of Enjion.com at the beginning of this month. You seem like a person who knows her stuff on the topic of media exposure and I could really use your perspective if you had a moment and some wisdom to share.
What made this press release was the intersection of the exclusivity of the announcement (there were only a select few companies who were made official Shopify Plus partners in the first round, and we were one of them), the fact that it was newsworthy, and having a great partner tied into the announcement itself. The latter point was especially critical to the PR, and the notoriety of the Shopify brand really gave the release ‘legs’ in terms of how far it was distributed and the impact it made.
The above free press release submission sites offer options for distribution of free press releases, which can be an excellent choice for anyone seeking a budget-friendly way to get a message or newsworthy story to the public, as well as to influencers and journalists.
PR.com has a different layout than the other sites. Their categories are the main focus of their website which makes it easier to find what you’re looking for and allows for more qualified traffic to be exposed to your press releases.
Although the utilization of press release material can save a company time and money, it makes the distributed media boring and similar to the output of other firms. In the digital age, consumers want to get their information instantly and this puts pressure on media companies to output as much material as possible. This often causes them to heavily rely on the use of press releases in order to create their stories.[8]
We are currently using pressmediawire.com. Apple is also spearheading the digital media revolution with its iPod portable music and video players and iTunes online store, and has entered the mobile phone market with its revolutionary iPhone.
When choosing a topic for your press release, ask yourself a few questions: is this topic newsworthy? Do people want or need to know about this topic? Is a press release the ideal medium to share this information? If your answer to these questions is YES, you can begin writing.
I’d recommend pitching the writer first, with an angle specific to their beat. If a case needs to be made to the editor, it can fare better coming from the writer, who’s already had an opportunity to work out an angle with the PR rep. As an editor, I’m more likely to prioritize emails coming from those I have personal relationships with. These have been built over the years from the days when I was the writer presenting to my editors. Starting a new relationship with me as an editor, the most successful pitches have been those offering high profile interviews (editors that still write columns will want to take these for themselves before passing them off to junior writers) or highly specific content, like an original guest contribution. This press release is also very concise. It states the facts right away. Then followed up with value for the audience. We also add a quote from our CEO, which is valuable, and quotes Day Translations’ first employee, who is still with the company today.
If it’s a local news event, find out who in the local media covers your neighborhood or issue. Do some research on bigger news organizations to find out which reporters or producers cover your industry. Some media organizations have designated e-mail addresses or fax numbers to which all releases are directed.
The major news agencies generally prepare hard news stories and feature articles that can be used by other news organizations with little or no modification, and then sell them to other news organizations. They provide these articles in bulk electronically through wire services (originally they used telegraphy; today they frequently use the Internet). Corporations, individuals, analysts, and intelligence agencies may also subscribe.
