If your press release has gone onto a second page, you’ve probably got two or more stories. (Or you’ve padded it out with irrelevant, self-congratulatory quotes from ‘important’ people you’ve been told have to be included.)
America’s teenagers are angry at Hollywood for glamorizing ultra-thin bodies, and many girls say they feel too self-conscious about their bodies as a result of watching TV, movies and music videos. The findings are gleaned from more than six months of ongoing discussion and debate at the website theplace4vitamins.com. According to theplace4vitamins.com President John Smith, anger and resentment toward the Hollywood ultra-thin runs deep, particularly among teenage girls.
Sometimes a press release is distributed early and embargoed – that is, news organizations are requested not to report the story until a specified time. For instance, news organizations usually receive a copy of presidential speeches several hours in advance. Product or media reviewers are commonly given a sample or preview of a product ahead of its release date.
After traveling and researching Sephardic history in Spain, Portugal, Peru, and Mexico, all seats of the Inquisition, I’m compelled to share a story about people who were chased around the world for almost 400 years because of what they believed.
Name recognition: Clout that comes with big recognizable names (well know people, organizations, companies, etc) will likely increase the interest in your news. If you’re partnering with, or involved with a big name that might generate this type of attention, consider issuing a press release.

Remember that press releases are a major form of branding, something that is exponentially vital in the online marketing world of the present day. SEO has shifted to being more about branding and engaging content than about getting backlinks.
Press releases should always be written in the third person. Write it as though you’re sharing riveting information. If your information isn’t riveting, take a brief step back. Maybe there’s something you can add to your event or announcement that will make it more interesting. Of course, that something has to happen. You can’t mention that an A-list celebrity will show up at your event when you know full well he won’t. Linking your press release to a current trend or happening in the news can also help grab attention.
The headline and subhead are the prime places to work in keywords that will help search engine optimization and draw traffic to your release once it’s online, says Leyl Master Black, managing director at San Francisco’s SparkPR, whose clients include Bing and Barclays.  For instance, she says, if you’re launching an e-commerce platform, you want the words e-commerce, platform, and software to appear in your headline and opening paragraphs several times.
Here’s a great place to put a strong quote. Make it emotional. Make it sell, said Your best Spokesperson, the Title Role of Your Organization. Then, make your spokesperson finish up in a second sentence, usually asking for some kind of action or change.
After the title, use a paragraph or two to describe your company with 5 or 6 lines each. The text must describe your company, its core business and the business policy. Many businesses already have professionally written brochures, presentations, business plans, etc. That introductory text can be put here.
Of course, we’re all familiar with the traditional distribution levers we can pull, which include publishing the press release on our website/blog, as well as sharing the press release with our followers/subscribers via social media and email. But for a press release gets the maximum amount of distribution possible, here are some tips you can follow.
NORTH ADAMS, MASS. — The first paragraph of an event release includes the College’s name and mentions the guest’s name, his/her title (if applicable), as well as the event title and the day, date, time and location. (Example: Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) announces environmentalist John Smith will deliver a lecture, “Green Living in the Berkshires,” on Thursday, July 30, at 7 p.m. in the Sammer Dennis Room (218), in Murdock Hall on the MCLA campus.)
When you’re writing a press release, samples can be hard to find and replicate. While press releases are an essential part of online marketing and digital communication, they’re tough to write, and few people understand their structure.
All press releases must include a headline, sub-heading and a notes to editors section listing the contact information of the academics mentioned. The number of paragraphs will vary according to the newsworthiness of the story, however, the introduction must always answer the five Ws and a quotation is always needed. It is good practice to limit press releases to approximately 300-350 words, featuring the key information presented with an angle in mind.

Headline and secondary headline – The headline is crucial to your press release as it is the first thing that will catch the reader’s attention. Keep it short, interesting, and descriptive. If you’re handling press release distribution on your own, it’s nearly impossible to match the time and efficiency of a press release company. Press release distribution services can reach a wide range of media sources instantaneously, whereas it may take hours or even days for independent press release distribution to reach that same visibility.
The end of the press release should include your company’s current contact information, including website URL, phone number, a point of contact email address, mailing address, and links to two or three relevant social profiles.
It’s important with any release to ensure you’re writing for the appropriate audience, and straight news tends to be targeted toward business journalists, news editors, assignment editors and investors, as well as current and potential customers. For this reason, it’s important to focus on presenting your news in a straightforward and easy-to-read manner.
Finally, keep it under one page. The people who can get the word out about your app get dozens of pitches a day…just like yours. The longer it is, the more likely it is that they will hit the delete button.
For the ‘first 2,000 hours battery story’, you might go on to mention that while mobile phone technology has moved at an alarming pace, the batteries that power them have stayed the same for decades, frustrating users and manufacturers.

I originally wrote a more traditional (read: boring) release around our company’s 25th anniversary but after getting bored just proofreading it, I decided to scrap the whole thing and make it something people would actually enjoy reading. The press release not only conveyed our message, but by taking a tongue-in-cheek approach, it also conveyed our brand’s fun-loving personality.
