Hi Makori, thanks for the comment and great question. The headline and the first sentence are both incredibly important and should both be treated as grabbers. I would argue that the headline is the most important element though because it is often the element that gets people to click and read the press release.
Headlines written in bold! A bold headline also typically uses a larger font size than the body copy. Conventional press release headlines use the present tense and exclude a and the, as well as forms of the verb to be in certain contexts.
that depends on which media you are targeting, if you’re targeting media with an audience who will know the author then that should feature in your pitch. When you target media with a younger audience you’ll need to find an angle that they can relate to.

So if I (or a professional) would write the story myself to be unique and stunning and etc, and it would be distributed to some hundreds of pages, then it would make a SEO effect or not, in your opinion?
Selikoff also warns against using a canned quote talking about how great your company is. Use a quote that provides some insight instead. It’s also helpful to know some publications’ standards on using quotes from a release. While blogs and very small publications will often use information directly from a release, and re-use quotes you include in the release in their story, major publications most often will not.
“It’s probably the most discouraging answer ever – it was months ago, and even then it was because it was something I was already looking for. I didn’t become interested in the topic BECAUSE of the press release.”
This may sound surprising coming from the owner of a digital PR agency, but I’ve got a love/hate relationship with press releases. If I’m being honest, sometimes it’s mostly hate (and primarily directed toward press release distribution services that make big promises and rarely, if ever, deliver). And I’m not alone: many pros in the PR industry are ready to dance on the grave of traditional press release distribution.
Paying for news distribution is valued by corporations and usually proves to be beneficial. Corporate clients like to see lots of pick-up coverage and paid news distribution scores with the full court press time and time again. However, if you are doing a news release regarding a court proceeding, a number of the paid news outlets will not print your news release. Also, when you are promoting entertainment – shows, performances, events – you want to focus on your core audience. The broadside approach of PND can miss the mark and the consumer you wanted to reach, gets by you.
In the body of the email, explain what is happening, when and where, who is involved, how it’s done and why it’s newsworthy. Make sure to offer all necessary information – including important dates, names, and locations.
However, most press releases never accomplish that. Most press releases are just spray and pray. Nobody reads them, least of all the reporters and editors for whom they’re intended. Worst case, a badly-written press release simply makes your firm look clueless and stupid.
By making them simple to read, with simple formatting and expected places for dates, times, headlines and so forth, you make the journalist’s job much easier. And when you make their lives easier, you are more likely to get coverage in the newspaper, magazine, website, or news broadcast. .

This last sentence or two focuses on the future. If you’re supporting a candidate, for example, you can say what date the election is held, and what the stakes are. If you’re advertising an event, you can note that it’s annual and the next one is already scheduled. Simply wrap up by looking ahead in some way. This is a very short paragraph, sometimes only a sentence!

There’s no broad answer to that, it depends entirely on your book, the media that you are targeting and quite a few other factors. You need to offer the media something that will help them entertain or inform their audience, so look for the overlap with your book.
It is important in a modern era of online marketing to have a press release distribution service which offers the ability to track the success of a news release amongst multiple aspects. Our analysis ensures not only the availability of tracking of a news release, but to ensure that the tracking considers various elements which may impact the accuracy or sustainability of different methods of tracking clicks and visits to a release.
Hi Tyler. I’m sorry to hear you did not get the press response you were hoping for. I know how incredibly frustrating and disappointing this can be, so I feel for you. It’s hard to say exactly what happened without knowing what you sent, but it sounds like you may be confusing the press release with the pitch email. Your press release is a document intended for general distribution that covers all the pertinent details of your game/announcement. The pitch email is an email sent by you to a contact at a publication intended to pique his/her interest in your game by answering the question, why would this contact’s readership care about my game? Because each publication’s readership may have different interests, and because every writer is different, every pitch email you send should be personalized and tailored. That said, your pitch emails should also include your press release (via a link to your online press kit, copy and pasted below your pitch email, etc.), along with your other promotional assets, so writers have everything they need to cover your Kickstarter. I would offer these pieces of advice:
4. Body. The body of the press release is where you really get to tell the story of the event. This portion of the release will usually have two or three paragraphs. Use the first paragraph elaborate on the details of the event. Talk about the target audience, any guests who will be featured and their background, and the benefits of attending. If the venue is historic or ties in with your event in some way or the date coincides with history or a special anniversary with your company, mention this. This part of the press release can be a bit more descriptive than previous sections.
Content is more than just text. Its visual and a picture is worth a thousand words. Help convey your story with images, photos and video. Premium submissions allow you to include a variety of content to strengthen your image, brand and news.
To put it another way: this paragraph should give your reader all the information he or she needs to understand the “next steps,” regardless of whether that’s where to find your upcoming event or how to contact your new HR manager.
