michael soward press release what does the boilerplate of a press release do?

Since press releases are also designed for the media to pick up and share with their audience, a reporter or editor wants to know how many people will be interested in this product or service. This particular release is targeted at renters, and since there are over 40 million renter-occupied households in the US, we knew that the media would be excited to share a free educational guide with such a large audience.
Thanks Nitisha. In the UK, at least, you can’t get a press release published in the traditional sense. You give or send it to the editor or journalist and if it’s a good story, they’ll decide to run it or not. You should study your target publications first to see if your story is relevant to their readership. If a publication wants to charge for your story, that’s not PR, that’s advertising. In that case, you decide what you want say and where you want it to appear. For more information on PR visit the CIPR or PRCA websites.
Now that news releases have a longer lifespan on the Internet, feature news releases have risen in popularity. These releases take a unique angle on a brand’s news and bring their message straight to consumer audiences in ways the audience will want to read and share.
Our parent company, Adigica Health, is an ecommerce company focused on the development of healthcare products. We recently developed a new proprietary skin care regimen specifically formulated for the treatment of acne in teenagers and young adults, and we sent out a press release announcing the new product.
In my experience, if it reads like the lead to a story then it makes it easier for a news outlet to publish as is, or for a reporter to pick up the ball and run with it from there. I am not saying every news outlet will use your exact lead, or even publish the release in full, but it does give them a good idea of how they might approach your story. I have had a lot of success having my press releases picked up and run as is.
And finally … aim high, but be realistic in your expectations. Most journalists are swamped with press releases, so it may take you a few attempts and a bit of chasing to land press coverage for your business. Don’t give up though; determination and a willingness to learn can take you a very long way.

WASHINGTON — In a full-page ad placed in major U.S. newspapers on Wednesday, AT&T called on Congress to pass an “Internet Bill of Rights” that would apply to phone and cable companies as well as technology platforms.
So, when should you press ‘send’? The general rule is ‘early in the week, early in the day’. Unfortunately, there is no magic hour. If you’re approaching someone who writes for a living, avoid late afternoon and Friday, when they are already signing off and might not remember your case next time they sit at their desk.
If you’re relying on a free press release distribution service to get your news in front of journalists and bloggers, the odds are that it isn’t going to work except perhaps in a few special cases. If you really must use a wire service, you’d be better served with a premium service. Having said all that, one of the best ways to get journalists interested in your news is traditional PR media relations – find the right journalist, get your story straight and pitch it. We’ve got a series of how-to’s and guides on writing press releases and pitching to the press in our articles on effective press releases.
Another trick is to imagine your story is going to be covered on a TV or radio programme. A presenter generally has around 5-6 seconds to introduce each item eg And coming up next … why a local cafe owner is giving a free coffee this weekend to anyone born in July. If your story was going to be featured on the radio today, how would the presenter introduce it? Asking yourself that question should give you the top line of your story.

If possible, include a link to an online copy of the same release. It’s good practice to keep a log of all of your press releases housed on your own website. This can make providing such a link easier to produce, as well as keeping a record for historical purposes.
Quotes add life to your press release. When you add a relevant quote to your press release which emphasizes on the core announcement, the media will quote that in their own coverage of the news and you will likely get the attention and generate the positive image you had hoped to establish.
Since a press release is supposed to look and feel like a story in a newspaper, it’s important to include a location and date stamp at the beginning of the first paragraph. Something like, Palo Alto, CA – February 5, 2007. Like a standard news story, the first sentence, or lede, should summarize the main news of the press release in 25 words or less [source: Concept Marketing Group].
But, with so many people on information overload via social media, texts, and emails, how do you generate excitement? What elements should your press release include or exclude? How much information is enough? How much is too little? Should you send out a traditional press release, or would an online-only press release suffice? Including the following elements should give you a good outline of how to write a press release for an event, while generating a buzz that will tell your reader that yours is not an event to be missed! Writers and journalists are always looking for good story opportunities to post on their publication’s website – no matter the size or amount.  In many cases, any legitimate story is better than no story.

Put the words For immediate release at the very top of the page. The headline — the key to grabbing attention — should be centered on the page, and usually written in bold or capital letters. Under that, put a subhead, often in italics, that elaborates on the headline.
This is one of the best graphics I’ve seen describing the correct formula for a press release. However, you forgot one thing. Just above the Headline you forgot to write the words: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (in call caps). If I may please ask you to revise your graphic, you would help a lot of new writers to learn the true formula of an Associated Press press release standard. Thanks again for your well designed and informative graphic.

Because people aren’t perfect, telephone everyone to whom you sent releases to increase your chances of getting covered. Call your personal contacts and reporters you have worked with in the past in advance so they have more time to be free to cover you. When you follow up with the reporter, be sure to include any last minute news that was not added in your release.
Opening paragraph: The opening paragraph has to be strong and include pertinent information, namely what the press release is about, who it affects, and why they should read or act upon it. If you talk of an event or launch, you also need to mention when it will take place.
