Be as provocative as you can – Most media, especially in large cities, get tons of releases every week, so you want to make yours stand out. Find an eye-opening aspect to your release, or at least make sure your points are strongly emphasized. For example, perhaps pro-life and pro choice activist groups are working together on teen pregnancy prevention, or real estate groups and housing activists are working together on a housing initiative. In both these cases, the organizations involved might use their unusual situations to create press releases the media would snap up.
Solicitations to transfer large sums of money to your bank account: If you receive a solicitation to transfer a large amount of money from an African nation to your bank account in exchange for a payment of millions of dollars, go to the US Secret Service Web site for information about the Nigerian Advance Fee Fraud or 4-1-9 Fraud scheme.
Now that news releases have a longer lifespan on the Internet, feature news releases have risen in popularity. These releases take a unique angle on a brand’s news and bring their message straight to consumer audiences in ways the audience will want to read and share.
A good press release immediately grabs the reader’s attention by explaining why it’s relevant. For a product release, like the free ebook mentioned in this example, readers want to know who the intended audience is and how the product will benefit them.
With the huge onslaught of data that’s coming in, businesses have tried different methods to handle them all. Conventional database systems have been replaced with horizontal database, columnar designs and cloud enabled schemas. Even so, the role of quality analysis is still teetering on toddler legs because, in order to Big Data applications, you need a specific mindset, skills and knowledge, followed by a knowledge of data science.
Some press release distribution services (discussed in more detail below) will charge extra to add visual content. But this is well worth the price! Visuals are a major draw for journalists who are on the hunt for their next story.
Our most recent press release, which actually went out today, has been picked up by Business Insider and Yahoo. Successful press releases include information that is well written, worth sharing, and provides value to those reading. Craft a catchy title to garner the attention of notable sources and publications. On the other hand, get to the point with your actual press announcement while remaining professional and communicating an effective message. Be sure there are no grammatical issues or spelling errors. Last but not least, always include relevant contact information so you can be reached by potential consumers, partners, representatives, and anybody else interested in the contents of your press release.
The bottom line is that if your event is boring, your press release may be yawn-worthy as well, and no one is going to want to run with it. You’ll also want to avoid dry, rigid wording for this reason. You don’t want to lose your reader with the first sentence. Using quotes can liven things up. A press release is not just a rendition of facts.
C. Summary line. If you haven’t lost journalists by now, this is where you have to convince them that your story is worth reading (and therefore that theirs will be too) so they go through more of your press release. You want to make clear what are the basics of your app and what makes it unique at the same time.

There is a lot of debate whether or not press releases are worthwhile for new and upcoming ecommerce merchants anymore. We have heard good arguments on both sides, and to be perfectly honest, for most online store owners it’s one of those tactics that could be a hit or miss, but if it hits, it could result in a major press launch for your brand. For example, BeardBrand launched their store and never looked back literally the day an article about beard grooming for men mentioned them and was published in the New York Times.
Hello Dominic. Thank you for the comment. When you email any writer, editor, reviewer, etc., your email should ALWAYS be tailored to that person and the readership of the publication that he/she writes for–as you mention in your note. It should be personalized to the individual you are writing to and explain why that person’s readership will love your game (i.e., your tailored pitch). As for your press release, it can be copied and pasted below your main email, or you could post it on an online press kit and link to it from your email. In this online press kit you could also include your screenshots, trailer video, etc.
If you want it to be standing room only at the shows on your tour, then you need to publicize your band as much and as often as you can. Getting media attention, especially in a larger market like Los Angeles or New York can be very difficult, especially if you’re newcomers without professional representation.
The European Geosciences Union (EGU) has named journalists Julia Rosen and Vivien Cumming as the winners of its 2018 Science Journalism Fellowship. The support will allow Rosen to travel to the UK to write about the role of soil in the phosphorus crisis, while Cumming will follow scientists in Myanmar to tell the story of carbon in rivers.

I originally wrote a more traditional (read: boring) release around our company’s 25th anniversary but after getting bored just proofreading it, I decided to scrap the whole thing and make it something people would actually enjoy reading. The press release not only conveyed our message, but by taking a tongue-in-cheek approach, it also conveyed our brand’s fun-loving personality.
E. Screenshots. Obviously that’s only for the press release pdf you’ll put in your app press kit, not for the text-only version you’ll send in the body of your emails. Since you already have made and selected the best screenshots for your app details page on the store, why not use them?
You need to have the theme and anything that is summarized very concisely and neatly, Selikoff says. The remainder of the press release is kind of fleshing out the story. But the main story has to get across in the first paragraph.
Then, there is another school of thought that if you have the time and energy, you can post on as many sites as possible and get more sustained traffic and visibility to your site. If you’re so inclined, here is a list of over 60 free press release distribution sites, compiled by Press Release Point and they will even post to all those sites for you…for a modest fee. It kind of defeats the purpose of using free sites but for a few dollars, it could be worth saving your valuable time.
Ideally, quotes will be from key stakeholders in your company including your executive team, project leads, or those directly impacted by your announcement. Quoting key figures and authorities underlines the importance of your development. The chosen quote should shape your narrative and emphasize the core of the announcement. Don’t ask everyone in your office for a comment or feel compelled to quote all 25 people included in the acquisition — pick one or two critical spokespeople and focus the quotes around their unique perspective.
TV news viewers can often detect the use of VNRs within television newscasts; for example, many movie-star interviews are actually VNRs, taped on a set which is located at the movie studio and decorated with the movie’s logo. Another frequent example of VNRs masquerading as news footage is videotapes of particular medical breakthroughs, that are really produced and distributed by pharmaceutical companies for the purpose of selling new medicines.
The truth is that many of the authors who do this didn’t get featured on the ABC or Fox that we know.  Their book press release showed up on obscure sub-affiliates of these major websites, like NBC Milwaukee or something like that.  It’s still NBC, right?  But not the one you immediately think of…sneaky sneaky.
Hello. Although I personally reckon this post is a bit prescriptive (I prefer devs to just say Hey, I’ve made a NEW THING! Here it is!, there are some good tips regarding content to possibly include. (Just, y’know, avoid doing the robot thing. I get 50+ PRs on a good a day (on a bad day, I get more), and many of them look identical in structure and that’s a FIVE-ALARM WARNING to bin every one of the things.) In terms of format, though, speaking as a journo, sending me a Word document is a really great way to get me to immediately delete your PR. Send the text in the *body* of the email, so I can easily access and search it later. Do not make me load up some other app or even fire up Quick Look to view your copy. (Also, a *huge* number of devs I know don’t use Word these days, threatening any fancy formatting. PDF’s fine for an online press kit, though—no problems copying and pasting from it, assuming you’ve done the PDF right.) And I’m sure this sounds grumpy as hell, but when you’re bombarded by email, you need to be able to filter things very quickly. Open the attachment to read about my new thing loses to My new thing is…
I was wrecking my brain all weekend about this and come up with a similar conclusion. I’ll do a soft launch and then send my pitch to people. Thank you for your insite. Also I have been looking into ad networks.
It’s simple. A press release is a one to two page document used to call attention to your company and its products/services. They are written in very formulaic ways, and with good reason. Hundreds, if not thousands, of these press releases come onto the scene every day. If they all took different formats, it would be a nightmare for the press to handle.
F. Description. This part is the main body of your press release, and should (and I’ll just quote Dave) “explain in concise detail exactly what your app does, what features and benefits it provides, and why people should care”. A great addition to the app explanation is a nice and short quote from you or from a partner. Besides being pretty fun to write, it lets you bring up a different aspect of the app. Here’s a good post on how to write a killer press release quote.
My most successful recent pitches have been “media drops” which entails dropping the product off at the studio, radio or tv station, or newsroom, together with the press release and background information materials.
The first body paragraph should present the who, what, when, where, and why/how of the press release. This should act as a short summary that gives the reader a general idea of what the whole story is about. You should stick to the facts here, and avoid hyping or trying to sell your products or services. The body text should be typed in a non-bolded size 12 font.
