Write the first paragraph of the body. This will follow the city, state and date of the release, and introduces the reader to the announcement. The first paragraph can identify the product again, state the key benefits and needs that the product fulfills.
The list of free pr sites is GREAT – I thought I’d done most of the ones that are out there that get ranked in Google, but you had some additional ones that I used after reading this – and they were easy. OpenPR.com and Newsvine. Both seem to be solid and reputable, I’ll be curious to see if we show up in Google after using them!
Bottom Line: Using free press releases distribution websites is a fruitless PR and SEO strategy, experts warn. Paying to distribute news through a legitimate service will surely produce better results that that can be tracked media monitoring and measurement. “You get what you pay for” when you chose a news distribution service.
And finally … aim high, but be realistic in your expectations. Most journalists are swamped with press releases, so it may take you a few attempts and a bit of chasing to land press coverage for your business. Don’t give up though; determination and a willingness to learn can take you a very long way.
And television stations are a different story entirely. If you’re trying to get air time for an event, send out your press release to your local TV stations at least two days beforehand. Since news varies from day-to-day, a car crash can prevent stations from covering your event. But your chances are even lower if they receive your press release the same day.
SEO expert Jeremy Levey, now with Mars Med Supply, recalls when he worked at CardCash.com and the company signed up for a 12-month unlimited press release plan in 2013. “We sent many press releases with a decent amount of links and got little SEO boost from it. We actually saw the drop in effectiveness over the course of 2013 and we just dropped it towards the end,” he told online marketing agency Local Fame.
Important: A press release is a written communication that reports on an event, circumstance or occurrence and is provided to the news media for the purpose of promotion. Gambling, wonder drug or other similar announcements will not be accepted.
In the not-too-distant past, businesses and SEO agencies used the sites as an SEO ploy. They would stuff low-quality news releases with keyword-filled backlinks and send them to scores of press release distribution sites in an effort to game Google’s algorithm. In response, Google’s 2012 Panda update severely penalized the sites. It rendered the SEO value of their links virtually worthless and classified many of the sites as spam.
It might seem trivial, but the most important part of your press release is the headline. Most journalists are incredibly busy, and their inboxes are overflowing with generic press releases. Unless you’ve got a snappy subject line, chances are that your press release will go straight in the bin without getting read. So, what constitutes snappy?
Add the call to action. This will include information on the product name, product/company website, as well as the media contact or the creator of the press release. This provides contact information for anyone interested in learning more.
LetterPress Chocolate, the first bean to bar chocolate maker in Los Angeles, has partnered with Ucayali River Cacao in Peru to help farmers move away from Coca production to Cacao. Coca is processed into cocaine and is a very dangerous venture.
The rest of the body of the press release should answer all of the questions a journalist might have about the product, service or event that you’re announcing. Although a press release is a public relations tool, it should not read as overly promotional [source: Concept Marketing Group].  If it sounds too much like a sales pitch, it will lose credibility in the eyes of the journalist.
Once journalists or customers read your press release, they may want to know how to contact you. This is why it’s so critical to include your current contact information in your press release. For best results, include your email address, telephone number and a link to your company’s website and social profiles. Make sure that the information you include is current so people never have any trouble getting ahold of you.
The first paragraph of your release should cover the who, what, why, where, and how of your new launch, update, or development. Reporters don’t have a ton of time to sift through details and fluffy background information — they just need the facts that’ll help them tell your story to someone else from a position of authority.
WASHINGTON — In a full-page ad placed in major U.S. newspapers on Wednesday, AT&T called on Congress to pass an “Internet Bill of Rights” that would apply to phone and cable companies as well as technology platforms.

Do as much of the work for the journalist as you possibly can. Journalists receive, literally, hundreds of emails and story pitches every single day – often, you’re lucky if they even read your email. For this reason, you need to make it as easy for them to digest your story as possible. Give your email an eye-catching title to grab their attention and provide a brief synopsis of the story and why it is relevant to that journalist’s publication. You should also attach all the relevant imagery and press info to the email; it’s a good idea to paste the press release into the body text of the email so the journalist can read it without having to download the document.
5.     Good press releases can spread far and wide. A while back, I talked about the importance of targeting smaller local media outlets. One of the reasons I gave is that most major media outlets get a significant percentage of their stories from local media outlets throughout the world. That’s how the news industry works. One reporter picks up a story, and then it spreads from one publication to the next.
Make the heading of your press release a catchy one.Write the press release in such a way that the matter appears to be newsworthy.Show how the matter is different from others in the same field.Do not use too many fancy words which can make it difficult to understand for an average reader.Try to impress the readers as much as possible in the first few lines of the release and don’t make it too big.
Keep in mind, however, that effective distribution services come with a pricetag. However, there are a range of price points. We generally advise clients to decide on a price point based on their releases’ importance. The more newsworthy, the more it may pay to up your spend.
This paragraph is your details paragraph. It is here that you give background, stories, history, information, or stats. This is where you paint a picture and bring in all the other stuff you want people to know about your announcement.
This press release is indexed by Google as indicated by the live snippet. Since Google has crawled this web page, the dofollow link in the release is slightly boosting the authority of the page it is pointing to, helping it to rank a bit better in Google.
For example, a while back I received a press release containing the following sentence: Release 6.0 doubles the level of functionality available, providing organizations of all sizes with a fast-to-deploy, highly robust, and easy-to-use solution to better acquire, retain, and serve customers.
Finally, keep it under one page. The people who can get the word out about your app get dozens of pitches a day…just like yours. The longer it is, the more likely it is that they will hit the delete button.
An angle is an essential aspect of writing a press release, and it’s often what determines how much coverage your free press release will get. Try to use your free PR release to create an angle that readers will find valuable, newsworthy, and timely.
If you’re writing a press release to send to a journalist you need to think (and write) like a journalist. You need to be able to pitch a story that captures the attention of the journalist you’re pitching to.
A common oversight that can render a press release ineffectual is a lack of contact information for reporters to follow up with. Whether you or someone else at the company is the point of contact, don’t forget to include an email address and phone number on the release (preferably at the top of the page).
Emphasize what makes your release important – What in your release is going to grab people’s attention? Why is it important to the community? Why should they care? Emphasize one or two of the basic elements above. For instance, if the mayor is going to speak on the issue at your event, it would be a good idea to emphasize the “who”. If your event is the first charity fund raiser at the new recreation center, the “where” would be emphasized.
Thanks Nitisha. In the UK, at least, you can’t get a press release published in the traditional sense. You give or send it to the editor or journalist and if it’s a good story, they’ll decide to run it or not. You should study your target publications first to see if your story is relevant to their readership. If a publication wants to charge for your story, that’s not PR, that’s advertising. In that case, you decide what you want say and where you want it to appear. For more information on PR visit the CIPR or PRCA websites.
