Try to give a good reason for why a reporter in Pittsburgh would want to cover you: Is one of your band mates from the area? Did you have a particularly memorable experience the last time you visited? Maybe you’ve already been reviewed by a given writer and want to invite them to hear your new songs. I get asked all the time if I can I provide a list of free press release submission companies. Despite being antithetical to my press release distribution business, which relies on reaching media directly by email and dedicated newswire feeds to newsrooms nationwide, I thought it would be worth venturing into this murky world to give you a comprehensive list of free press release websites. I caution you to use at your own risk and to realize that a free press release is not a mechanism of public relations or PR, but an offshoot of search engine optimization (SEO) — with no proven track record of actually improving a website’s SEO.

If you deluge a news organization with unprofessional or uninteresting releases, your chances of ever getting favorable news coverage are zero-to-slim.
It’s easy to fill up a page with a creative, colorful narrative. Leave the artistry to the writers — pack your press release with hard numbers that support the significance of your product or announcement. If you’re claiming a trend, you need proof to back it up. Quantify your argument and it will become much more compelling.
Here are a handful of other free distribution sites that you can use for SEO purposes. My preference is to use sites with a Page Rank of 4 and above, and I don’t usually bother with PageRank 3 and below sites due to time constraints. Your situation may be different.
The standard press release begins with contact information, mostly likely the name, phone number and e-mail address of the person who wrote the release. Then comes the headline, arguably the most important four or five words in the whole press release. The headline will be what the journalist reads first. PR-USA allows keyword anchor text (be careful not to over-optimize) and automatic URL links. One glitch I found with PR-USA is they randomly published one of my press releases on a different website. The good news is my dofollow link is in tact, but the Gudelnews.com home page is a PR3, not the stronger PR5 I was hoping for from PR-USA.net.
Make sure the news source is clear and easily identifiable. News source is the company or organization issuing the release. It should also be clear how that company or organization relates to the news announcement.
And television stations are a different story entirely. If you’re trying to get air time for an event, send out your press release to your local TV stations at least two days beforehand. Since news varies from day-to-day, a car crash can prevent stations from covering your event. But your chances are even lower if they receive your press release the same day.

As you are not writing to your target audience directly, you need to write your press release in the third person. So “ABC Ltd has signed a £5 million deal with XYZ Ltd” not “We’ve signed a deal with…”

Personally, I prefer to put together a customized media list and send press releases to individual reporters, especially the ones in the local city or niche we are targeting. If your press release is newsworthy, then putting it on a wire service is a great add-on that can bring you more attention from media, customers, potential employees and partners you would otherwise not be able to reach.
A one line summary about the press release should be written underneath the headline. The summary should be very interesting and should be highlighted by strong vocabulary to capture the attention of the reader. Also, it should be written in such a way that it motivates readers to find out more of what is written in the main body of the press release. However, you should keep in mind that the headline and summary should synchronize with each other and maintain relevance to the news being discussed.
When an editor looks at your piece, he/she is thinking, from the first second, about how long it’s going to take them to get it to print. If your work is full of errors, lacking content, or just needs to be revised, they’re not going to waste their time. So make sure you have good grammar, all the basics, and have something to write about.
