Sadly, even small mistakes can minimize the impact of your press release. Editors won’t take the time to correct your mistakes — if it doesn’t meet specific press release standards, it will end up in the trash! So double and triple check all of your work before distribution.
Also, when you do syndicate your actual release on social media (as explained above), make sure you consider boosting those posts to spread brand awareness and to garner more social signals and create chatter.

Hi Emmy. I just saw your video on marketing. So good! It filled a few gaps I hadn’t covered in my research. But one thing is still to me. I would ask you : Where, in an email to the review sites, should we present the Press Release? Say I write to Toutcharcade. My first thought is I would be personal with them, talking to them about my game, my team… And if so, would I copy paste the Press Release below, in the email? Or are we supposed to place that PR as attachment to the email (just like the screenshots and Youtube trailer). Also is there a particularity that differs a review site to an article site? Many websites seem oriented towards revewing only. I’m guessing we need a different approach with them, without a PR. Sorry for the long post. Thank you!! Dominic
Newswire is pricey for businesses that don’t understand the value of using a trusted distribution network. Being on a quality wire where content is vetted and reviewed is important. Reporters are always pressed for time and need to know they can trust their news sources. Our releases are also optimized for search with each component having social media sharing tags to help with audience engagement and measurement.
Close – in North America, traditionally the symbol -30- appears after the boilerplate or body and before the media contact information, indicating to media that the release has ended. A more modern equivalent has been the ### symbol. In other countries, other means of indicating the end of the release may be used, such as the text ends.
If you’re publishing your press release on a distribution service like PR Newswire or Business Wire, avoid publishing it on the hour (e.g., 1 p.m., or 3 p.m., or 5 p.m.). The reason? Most companies schedule their releases to go out on the hour, which means if your release goes out on the hour too, it’s more likely to get lost in the shuffle. Instead, try going with a more distinct time (e.g., 1:12 p.m., or 3:18 p.m., or 5:22 p.m.).
Reducing greenhouse-gas emissions is not enough to limit global warming to a level that wouldn’t risk young people’s future, according to a new study published in Earth System Dynamics by a team of scientists who say we need negative emissions. Measures such as reforestation could accomplish much of the needed CO2 removal from the atmosphere, but continued high fossil fuel emissions would demand expensive technological solutions to extract CO2 and prevent dangerous warming.
It might seem trivial, but the most important part of your press release is the headline. Most journalists are incredibly busy, and their inboxes are overflowing with generic press releases. Unless you’ve got a snappy subject line, chances are that your press release will go straight in the bin without getting read. So, what constitutes snappy?
Be personal. At the very least, customize your email with a specific person’s name instead of mass mailing a press release to several people using To Whom It May Concern. Once you have created your media list, look them up on social media or Google them to see what they have written lately. If you show how your press release is relevant to, or maybe of interest to them due to their previous story, they are more likely to cover you.
It’s important to include your company logo or a relevant image with every press release. The better the image, the more real estate it might get in print or online. Also, traditional press releases always conclude with # symbols underneath the last line to signify the end of the release.
