While some people mistakenly believe that storytelling is reserved for novels and books, it’s a critical tool for a product-focused press release. The reason is simple: people don’t want to simply hear the features of your new product. Instead, they want to why they should use it, how it will change their lives, how you came up with it, and what makes it so different from anything else on the market. Storytelling is the best way to achieve these things.

Now that we have told you about how you should you go about writing a press release, we are sure that you can write one on your own. But when you are writing, you must keep in mind the following tips;
The News Widget can be embedded on your website or blog so you can showcase your company’s news, updates, and achievements. You can customize it by selecting the colors, font size, and width so it will match the rest of your website branding and then generate the code.
Not all press release distribution sites will have this same type of transparency and make that extra effort to help you feel like you already know who is on the other end of the phone or computer screen.

Thanks Nitisha. In the UK, at least, you can’t get a press release published in the traditional sense. You give or send it to the editor or journalist and if it’s a good story, they’ll decide to run it or not. You should study your target publications first to see if your story is relevant to their readership. If a publication wants to charge for your story, that’s not PR, that’s advertising. In that case, you decide what you want say and where you want it to appear. For more information on PR visit the CIPR or PRCA websites.
The Small Business Encyclopedia defines press releases — also known as news releases — as brief, printed statements that outline the major facts of a news story in journalistic style [source: Answers.com]. A press release should read like a news story, written in third-person, citing quotes and sources and containing standard press release information.
We’ll go into each of the sections of the book press release template in turn. Always remember that you need to write like a journalist – not an author. Clear, concise communication is your guiding philosophy.
It is where the meat comes in. In your second paragraph, add some color to your project. Obviously, what you include in this paragraph depends very much on what you’re promoting, but for instance, describe the music – comparisons are always a little tricky, but a few comparisons to other artists give the reader at least a frame of reference. Highlight the reason why your story is unique. List your tour dates. Use this paragraph to give information that a member of the media could use to tell your story. In other words, your first paragraph tells them Artist X is doing Y. The second paragraph might give them Artist X is doing Y because of Z.
Keep it Objective. Readers will respond better to a press release that gives the details of a show than they will to one that simply tells everyone how great an upcoming event is. The more objective your press release can be, the better.
When I hit “submit”, I got a message saying “Saving your submission. Waiting for a response. Please wait for 1 to 2 minutes.” My browser never resolved and while I was waiting, I received the confirmation email saying my release was published.
You also want to make sure the press release is newsworthy. This doesn’t mean that you can only send out a press release for information that would make the front page of the New York Times. It does mean that you have to find an angle that you think journalists will find interesting and want to write about.
If you want it to be standing room only at the shows on your tour, then you need to publicize your band as much and as often as you can. Getting media attention, especially in a larger market like Los Angeles or New York can be very difficult, especially if you’re newcomers without professional representation.
The first body paragraph should present the who, what, when, where, and why/how of the press release. This should act as a short summary that gives the reader a general idea of what the whole story is about. You should stick to the facts here, and avoid hyping or trying to sell your products or services. The body text should be typed in a non-bolded size 12 font.
I have had success in gaining press release coverage by coming up with the right angle or “hook” to ignite the interest of the media – starting with the title. Tying something into a news making headline, holiday theme, or other topic of interest has always been a plus. I then tailor-make media lists by hand selecting categories, and personalizing which editor, producer, or other booking contact is the appropriate fit.
From generating media coverage to positioning yourself as a thought leaders in your industry, and ultimately help your business succeed and grow — there are a number of reasons why business owners need to learn how to write and distribute a press release.
4. Body. The body of the press release is where you really get to tell the story of the event. This portion of the release will usually have two or three paragraphs. Use the first paragraph to elaborate on the details of the event. Talk about the target audience, any guests who will be featured and their background, and the benefits of attending. If the venue is historic or ties in with your event in some way or the date coincides with history or a special anniversary with your company, mention this. This part of the press release can be a bit more descriptive than previous sections.

A well-written press release is the first step in getting some attention for your new album. Use this template to help you organize your information. Note that this template was written with bands and indie labels in mind as the writers and the media in mind as the readers. PR folks and radio pluggers will want to take a slightly different approach with their press releases, and one- sheets for distributors and stores should also be slightly different.
Once you have ended the text of the press release, it’s a good idea to put one final note at the bottom that encourages someone who would like more information to reach out to you. Something like: “If you would like more information about this topic, please call [Name] at [Phone number], or email [email address].”
good site by the way, informative and helpful…I am wondering if you happen to know of the 50+ sites that the PressReleasePoint.com folks send their releases too…for $15 bucks it’s a steal, but I also don’t want to duplicate my efforts either…I did sign up, sent out my first release through them a couple hours ago… I did also write them to ask them the same question, but since you seem to know a great deal about (free sites in general), I was wondering if you knew the answer to my question…thank you in advance…
The main goal of any press release is to garner the positive image of the business or company. Therefore, any press release which is written for positive purposes is considered as a positive press release because they have the positive spin to blanket even the worse situations if they arise.
Cross promoting is often referred to by many in the industry as the “Free Form of Advertising,” which is exactly how the Edward Lowe Foundation references it. Cross promoting can exist across vast mediums, with public relations being one of them.
Will you instead review the basics and look at the templates and give it a shot?  The internet is loaded with press releases and yours will quickly get lost in the shuffle.  What will your headline be?
If it were easy to write a press release, there would be no need for press release writing services, press release writing articles, books, and newsletters. Press release writing is definitely not easy.
It is different from an advertisement in the way that in an advertisement, you pay the media outlets and your matter is presented by the outlet the way you want it to; while in a news release, you just send a statement to the media outlet and they decide how to present your information and whether to do it at all or not.
