It isn’t to say, however, that the media will grab the press release and run it. It may depend on whether the event or circumstance is something that might interest their readers or listeners, or if it benefits the community in some way.
Remember, you are courting editors, journalists, or TV producers – not consumers. They’re not looking for fancy formatting and they certainly aren’t hoping to be impressed by a writer’s expansive vocabulary. Stick to the point and be sure to include the essentials. Press releases are usually no more than one or two pages long and contain complete media contact information, a headline, dateline, the body of the press release, and three hash marks that state, in journalistic terms, ‘THE END.’
There’s a lot of squabble online about which press release distribution service is the best. Speaking from personal experience, there are only a handful that are even worth using. I’ve nailed Wall Street Journal time and time again using Berkshire Hathaway’s Business Wire, but it costs $400 or more for a release with a 400-word limit. (They charge you for each 100 words after that.) You’ll also pay a pretty penny to add photos, videos, social media signals, and so forth.
This enables them to rely on resources and connections that other best press release distribution websites may not have. As an additional benefit, their press release distribution service comes with an affordable, accessible pricing structure.
They have a press release example template with instructions on how to write a press release and an extensive Publisher FAQ that has helpful answers on topics such as how to write a business profile and how to review your press release distribution statistics.
In the next paragraph, include a biography about the speaker or group that is coming to campus. This may begin with a short description of the person’s job and additional title information, and about the company/organization they are with. If your event is a performance, also would be appropriate to include a description here.
There’s a trick to writing press releases, though. Your message has to be newsworthy without sounding like a blatant advertisement. The release is written in an unbiased format so the reader trusts the information to be accurate.
Changes, removals, and updates for the press releases distributed under our free package plus all paid press releases older than 30 days since their release dates at the time of the update request do cost $29 per press release, unless court ordered. Those requests will be taken care of by our PR editors on a first come first serve basis, and due to the large number of press releases running on our PR network, no estimates can be given as to when those changes will be made.
If you’re nervous about what you’ve got, do some research on what’s already out there. Someone probably wrote something on an event just like the one you’re covering. PR Web[1] and PR Newswire[2] are good places to start.
