Beyond that, all words in your headline should be in Title Case, meaning that all the words your headline should have capitalization except for prepositions and words that are shorter than 4 letters. You can see an example of this in the headline above.
So, you want to write a press release? Well, you’re in luck! Here are 4 press release examples to get you started. If you haven’t already checked out my article on how to write a press release, be sure to do that as well. That article, along with our lesson videos, are full of helpful information!
NORTH ADAMS, MASS. — The first paragraph of an event release includes the College’s name and mentions the guest’s name, his/her title (if applicable), as well as the event title and the day, date, time and location. (Example: Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) announces environmentalist John Smith will deliver a lecture, “Green Living in the Berkshires,” on Thursday, July 30, at 7 p.m. in the Sammer Dennis Room (218), in Murdock Hall on the MCLA campus.)
A press release is a short summary of your research. Journalists often use press releases when deciding to write a news article on recent scientific research. Although some science journalists are scientists, they are unlikely to be experts in every area that they cover. Therefore, a press release should be clear, concise, engaging, and – most importantly – accurate.
If you’re writing a press release to send to a journalist you need to think (and write) like a journalist. You need to be able to pitch a story that captures the attention of the journalist you’re pitching to.
The list of free pr sites is GREAT – I thought I’d done most of the ones that are out there that get ranked in Google, but you had some additional ones that I used after reading this – and they were easy. OpenPR.com and Newsvine. Both seem to be solid and reputable, I’ll be curious to see if we show up in Google after using them!
Hi Pablo, I’m not able to do any work on individual press releases at the moment. However I would suggest looking at your press release and asking yourself if it gives people a reason to care. Remember it’s not about your book, it’s about how your story can entertain the media outlet’s audience. In your case, I would focus more on the story of your journey and why it will appeal to a particular audience.
General news:  announce a general news item to create interest and earn exposure for the company or organization issuing the release.  Example headline:  “ABC Company Wins Customer Service Award Three Years in a Row.”
TV news viewers can often detect the use of VNRs within television newscasts; for example, many movie-star interviews are actually VNRs, taped on a set which is located at the movie studio and decorated with the movie’s logo. Another frequent example of VNRs masquerading as news footage is videotapes of particular medical breakthroughs, that are really produced and distributed by pharmaceutical companies for the purpose of selling new medicines.
This may sound surprising coming from the owner of a digital PR agency, but I’ve got a love/hate relationship with press releases. If I’m being honest, sometimes it’s mostly hate (and primarily directed toward press release distribution services that make big promises and rarely, if ever, deliver). And I’m not alone: many pros in the PR industry are ready to dance on the grave of traditional press release distribution.

Many paid sites also offer extra SEO benefits like tagging, the option to edit your meta data, and grammar checking. They may also tweet your release to their lists depending on the level of service you choose. Robust analytics also come with the territory.
Start a press release with an attention-grabbing headline in bold font. Begin the body copy with the date and city that the release is from. Your lead sentence should be a concise summary of the subject of the release. The rest of the body tells all the important details of your story: who, what, when where why and how. Put the most important information first, followed by more general information, and don’t forget to include your contact information at the end.
Journalists are generally taught to get as many of the five Ws (who, what, where, why and when) in the opening line of news stories, so if you want examples of great first lines for press releases, look no further than your daily newspaper.
A news agency is an organization that gathers news reports and sells them to subscribing news organizations, such as newspapers, magazines and radio and television broadcasters. A news agency may also be referred to as a wire service, newswire, or news service.
Communication is one of the fundamental elements of the business. Customers, partners, remote employees are exactly the people you should be able to stay in touch with in 24/7 mode. In this article, you will find out which communication trends are leading for 2017-2018.
A boilerplate is a short paragraph that explains the identity of a company and what it does. Boilerplate is optional, but it doesn’t hurt to have one to help identify your business. Think of boilerplates as a thumbnail sketch of your company that provides a little background information to the press. Once you’ve written a boilerplate, you can use it in all of your press releases.
The following packages are valid for 6 months and based on a 400 word release, standard overage rates apply.  I can also create something more customized for you if these to do not align with your needs.
While it can be a useful background document for journalists, a press release isn’t a story. If you want to maximise your chances of getting press coverage, you will have to tweak your idea, and your release, for different publications or programmes. You can find more information about how to find journalists’ contacts details in this article.
Paying attention to detail is absolutely critical, especially when you’re attempting to get national media outlets to cover your news. If you’re sloppy during any part of the process, your efforts can have a negative impact on your brand (and your ability to get media coverage in the future). Or worse, Dan Tynan will mercilessly mock you to his PR friends.
I’ve been a tech journalist for 20+ years and I couldn’t agree with Craig more: (a) there are some very good pointers in this article, but (b) watch out for the message coming across as a template-driven thing, and (c) for God’s sake never, ever send me a press release as a Word attachment! I honestly never look at them. Well, not unless I already know something about the topic and I know the sender. And then I’ll ask them to please not send me things like that any more. I know it sounds like a very grumpy attitude, but it’s just how it is. I’m sure the majority of journos feel the same about press release attachments. By all means consider these structure pointers but just put it all into the email body!
You can also hire an agency that has access to a media database – we use Meltwater for this, but Cision is also a good option and there are several others. You can gain access to these databases yourself, but it’s very costly (around $20k/year). When you go with an agency, you’re splitting that cost among other clients – and some agencies will pull you a media list for a fee, and let you handle the outreach. First and foremost, don’t try to be clever, and don’t bother with puns. Think about it: what is the key message you’re trying to get across? Shrink that message down to no more than 15 words, and make sure there are a couple colourful verbs or jagged adjectives in there. Be objective, and make a bold statement that’s a little controversial. By hooking a journalist in with an audacious opening line, you’ve passed your first hurdle. Now, it’s time to turn your attention to the story itself.
PRWeb is one of the better-known press release companies that receives lots of exposure. In a test, SteamFeed found that one of their releases received 57,489 impressions, 1,096 reads, 109 online pickups and 49 desirable interactions. There are five price tiers, ranging from $99 to $369.
