The list of free pr sites is GREAT – I thought I’d done most of the ones that are out there that get ranked in Google, but you had some additional ones that I used after reading this – and they were easy. OpenPR.com and Newsvine. Both seem to be solid and reputable, I’ll be curious to see if we show up in Google after using them!
You need to have something new and important to say. If your client simply wants to promote a product or service because it’s not selling well at the moment, you can’t just write about its benefits as you would in an ad or brochure.

Keep it Objective. Readers will respond better to a press release that gives the details of a show than they to one that simply tells everyone how great an upcoming event is. The more objective your press release can be, the better.
Your third paragraph could then give some detail on how the student developed the new battery, when we might expect to see it in use, how much it might cost, what effect it will have on mobile technology, etc.
Soulati Media conducted a head-to-head comparison of eReleases and PR Web, and PR Web provided far greater online exposure.
