Attachments and PDFs can just get clumsy and are best avoided. When emailing a press release, you need to keep it simple by having the headline in the subject line and the rest of the release in the body of the email.
To put it another way: this paragraph should give your reader all the information he or she needs to understand the “next steps,” regardless of whether that’s where to find your upcoming event or how to contact your new HR manager.

Next on our list is PR Newswire. Like most sites, this one requires an account, which is not a difficult task if you have noted the information mentioned previously. You will have to provide your business email, as an email account from a disposable service (Yahoo, Google, Hotmail, etc.) will not be accepted. This is a standard concept, because many sites require a login. The login is necessary because most of the sites charge fees on per release, monthly, quarterly or yearly basis.

Hello Dominic. Thank you for the comment. When you email any writer, editor, reviewer, etc., your email should ALWAYS be tailored to that person and the readership of the publication that he/she writes for–as you mention in your note. It should be personalized to the individual you are writing to and explain why that person’s readership will love your game (i.e., your tailored pitch). As for your press release, it can be copied and pasted below your main email, or you could post it on an online press kit and link to it from your email. In this online press kit you could also include your screenshots, trailer video, etc.

And time your releases right. If you want to send out something at the beginning of the tour as a kind of save the date that’s a good idea, but be sure to follow up with individual media as relevant dates approach.
Some sites that promote themselves as free sometimes offer very little for nothing. The free sites frequently do not actually distribute news to media outlets, but only post the release on their website – sometimes for only a limited time. They may urge visitors to pay additional fees to “publish” the press release or to “upgrade” for additional services, such as including live links or posting the release beyond the minimal time period. Some sites merely run advertisements that link to other press release sites.
These fancy PR tools give us access to every reporter, producer and editor at every media outlet you can imagine, as well as thousands that you can’t. They also allow us to track the ad value of each piece of media coverage, and let us know when media coverage goes live, including client mentions on TV. In short, if you can afford to hire a PR agency to manage your press release (or ongoing PR needs), you’ll find immense and immediate value in the tools they have at their disposal. That said, it’s still possible to DIY and get results.
News agencies can be corporations that sell news (e.g., Press Association, Thomson Reuters and United Press International). Other agencies work cooperatively with large media companies, generating their news centrally and sharing local news stories the major news agencies may choose to pick up and redistribute (i.e., Associated Press (AP), Agence France-Presse (AFP) or American Press Agency (APA)) and Indian Press Agency PTI.
Deal with actual facts –– events, products, services, people, targets, goals, plans, projects. Try to provide maximum use of concrete facts. This is news. A simple method for writing an effective press release is to make a list of following clarifications: Who, what, when, where, why, and how.
Subheads are remarkably useful tools, yet usually overlooked by press release writers. Basically, the press release subhead gives you the opportunity to flesh out your angle and further hook the reporter, without stepping on the drama of the press release headline.
In our Quick & Easy Guide to Sharing Your Press Release with the World, we provide tips on these and other press release nuts and bolts. But, while the basic bones of all releases should remain the same, each press release’s purpose will present key differences in the way it should be formatted.
Selikoff also warns against using a canned quote talking about how great your company is. Use a quote that provides some insight instead. It’s also helpful to know some publications’ standards on using quotes from a release. While blogs and very small publications will often use information directly from a release, and re-use quotes you include in the release in their story, major publications most often will not.
Make sure your press release reads well; concentrate on improving relevance and usefulness of the content. Most importantly, though, it should be short. A long press release will be hard to read, even if it is interesting, the reader is likely to stop reading at a certain point. So, make it short – it’s as simple as that.
Given that none of the releases was picked up by any site that might be considered to be the source of a valuable link, it seems that there is little value in using these services for link building. However, some of the sites do provide links and a few allow you to tailor the anchor text. (If you’re not familiar with ‘dofollow’ or ‘nofollow’ links, a good rule of thumb is that the ‘dofollow’ or ‘followed’ links are the kind that usually give some SEO benefit and ‘nofollow’ links generally don’t.) Most sites either didn’t give a link or gave a ‘nofollow’ link.
The key to keeping your PR strategy new school is forgetting preconceived notions of what public relations is and instead focusing on creating highly remarkable content. Traditional press releases can still be really valuable when executed well, so instead of ditching releases as a tactic, give them a modern makeover to make them more useful for your marketing.
The beginning of a press release — just as with a magazine article, book or promotional pamphlet — is the most important. A strong headline (and, for that matter, email subject line when you send out the pitch) will pull in journalists seeking good stories. Your headline should be as engaging as it is accurate.
And finally … aim high, but be realistic in your expectations. Most journalists are swamped with press releases, so it may take you a few attempts and a bit of chasing to land press coverage for your business. Don’t give up though; determination and a willingness to learn can take you a very long way.
The list below started as a 20-something site list and has been slimmed down to four. After all, you only need one good distribution service, right? When PageRank was still active, we had removed all sites with a PageRank below 7 from the list because at these prices, they ought to offer high quality inbound links. I’ve stuck to that shorter list. The sites listed here are also known to cache your press release indefinitely. Some sites delete them after 90-180 days.

I am with 24-7 Press Release Newswire (http://www.24-7pressrelease.com) a press distribution company that has been around since 2004 and believe me, there is not much that we have not seen or witnessed.
We conduct research studies throughout the year on various topics that we feel are relevant and of interest to our target audience. We sent out a press release a couple of months ago featuring our data monitoring survey that received a lot of positive feedback. It was picked up by various publications, including TLNT and Recruiter.com.

2. The PRWeb version of the release will likely get “picked up” by 200+ media outlets, ranging from Digital Journal to The Boston Globe. This is automatically syndicated and not editorially reviews, and, to be frank, isn’t worth much of anything. Here’s what this looks like in action:
