If you’re relying on a free press release distribution service to get your news in front of journalists and bloggers, the odds are that it isn’t going to work except perhaps in a few special cases. If you really must use a wire service, you’d be better served with a premium service. Having said all that, one of the best ways to get journalists interested in your news is traditional PR media relations – find the right journalist, get your story straight and pitch it. We’ve got a of how-to’s and guides on writing press releases and pitching to the press in our articles on effective press releases.
Our analysis of the distribution network gauges the overall depth of different channels and publishers which press releases are releasing. In addition, time is spent understanding the types of journalists and professionals which the press releases reach. This process is used to ensure that recommended PR distribution companies are in the eyes of those which produce the news and informational resources in each advertised industry.
If you need me, I’ll be over here trying not to be offended by the dinosaur comment (I’m only in my mid-to-late 27s!). Advertising has value, but it’s only as good as the targeting, messaging and product itself – the same is also true of PR. Ideally, the business has a mix of both.

In your case, I would look at eRelease’s distribution list (Click “Where Does it Go?”) and see the list of publications they send to under the “Banking and Financial Services” category, or perhaps “Investments.”
Selikoff also warns against using a canned quote talking about how great your company is. Use a quote that provides some insight instead. It’s also helpful to know some publications’ standards on using quotes from a release. While blogs and very small publications will often use information directly from a release, and re-use quotes you include in the release in their story, major publications most often will not.
Another point. When sending a press release to an editor, the best way to send it by copying and pasting the press release as text in the email. (Never send a press release as an attachment.) Here is the argument against my statement above. I always attach the press release to the email and I’ve never had a problem. My counter argument is, How many times have editors rejected your press releases due to it being an attachment and you did not even know this? Here is why I say put the press release as text in the email and NEVER send it as an attachment to an editor. 1) What program does the editor use to publish their press releases? InDesign or a web program. Translation: The editor or writer has to COPY AND PASTE your press release into another program to get it published. 2) An editor what? Received tons of emails every day. Put yourself in the editor’s shoes. The editor is trying to open and get through hundreds of emails every day. If an editor opens an email and finds text in the email, he/she/trans can IMMEDIATELY READ THE PRESS RELEASE and can decide IMMEDIATELY, if they want to publish it. If the press release is attached as a Word document, the email can easily be ignored or deleted. Also the editor, another writer or graphic designer can copy and paste the press release directly from the email into InDesign or a web program. Or they can copy and paste the press release into their own Word document WITHOUT having to TAKE THE TIME TO OPEN an attachment. Also, a publication might have a policy which DOES NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO OPEN AN ATTACHMENT due to the treat of viruses.
Our easy to use analytics puts the data at your fingertips. Sort and select specific dates, view locations and open rates in one convenient place. We also provide a detailed PDF report for Premium Submissions.
If you want to get started without professional help, there are plenty of services that offer easy and inexpensive distribution. PRweb.com is a popular option, and they have many options for releasing online press releases.
Of all the press release distribution services covered here, perhaps the one that is most unlike all the others is HARO (Help a Reporter Out). The service launched as a way to connect journalists with relevant sources. The basic idea here is that journalists are often working under tight deadlines, and may be having a hard time finding a key source or expert who can comment on the story. Using HARO, this journalist would gain access to some of the top sources out there.
Credibility: We determined credibility by checking the SEO industry’s most trusted metrics: Majestic Trust Flow and Moz Domain Authority. This process eliminated most of the free sites in our list. We think paid sites should offer more link credibility in addition to bonus features, so we slimmed down our list to include only those with high scores, also.
Press release material can be beneficial towards media corporations because releases help decrease costs and improve the amount of material a firm can output in a certain amount of time. Due to the material being pre-packaged, this saves journalists time, not only in writing a story, but also the time and money it would have taken to capture the news firsthand.[8]
A book press release is a means by which you showcase your book to journalists and news organizations in an interesting manner.  Basically, you’re doing the work for the journalist or news publication by writing it for them.  The best news is (pun intended) that most will actually accept the same news story that others have accepted, which is aptly known as mass syndication.
PR For Books: This is a specialist, UK based book promotion company which currently charges just under $290 for their services. PR For Books sells their services on the basis that they are a specialist book marketing company with over a decade of experience. They claim to have a track record dealing with the most relevant sources of publicity for authors – book reviewers and literary media, for example.
I hope you’ll refer to this list often, help me keep it up to date, and share it with other SEO’s, online marketers, and DIY business owners. If you’d like to submit a site for review or suggest a correction, please contact me. I’d love to hear from you!
A new study by the Flim Flam Marketing Group shows that while 75 percent of adults surveyed point to bad phone behavior as one of their pet peeves, only 20 percent admit to being guilty of this behavior.

After having three children and raising them at home for a decade, she went to law school and graduated Cum Laude in 2007. After years of criminal law practice, she stepped back to homeschool her boys through High School. 6) Improve your website’s Page Rank. A press release that keeps building diverse backlinks will improve your PageRank. The higher your website’s page rank, the more frequent it will appear in search engine results.
Dateline – contains the release date and usually the originating city of the press release. If the date listed is after the date that the information was actually sent to the media, then the sender is requesting a news embargo, which journalists are under no obligation to honor.
Hello. Although I personally reckon this post is a bit prescriptive (I prefer devs to just say Hey, I’ve made a NEW THING! Here it is!, there are some good tips regarding content to possibly include. (Just, y’know, avoid doing the robot thing. I get 50+ PRs on a good a day (on a bad day, I get more), and many of them look identical in structure and that’s a FIVE-ALARM WARNING to bin every one of the things.) In terms of format, though, speaking as a journo, sending me a Word document is a really great way to get me to immediately delete your PR. Send the text in the *body* of the email, so I can easily access and search it later. Do not make me load up some other app or even fire up Quick Look to view your copy. (Also, a *huge* number of devs I know don’t use Word these days, threatening any fancy formatting. PDF’s fine for an online press kit, though—no problems copying and pasting from it, assuming you’ve done the PDF right.) And I’m sure this sounds grumpy as hell, but when you’re bombarded by email, you need to be able to filter things very quickly. Only a few large newspapers could afford bureaus outside their home city. They relied instead on news agencies, especially Havas (founded 1835) in France and the Associated Press (founded 1846) in the United States. Former Havas employees founded Reuters in 1851 in Britain and Wolff in 1849 in Germany; Havas is now Agence France-Presse (AFP).[2] For international news, the agencies pooled their resources, so that Havas, for example, covered the French Empire, South America and the Balkans and shared the news with the other national agencies. In France the typical contract with Havas provided a provincial newspaper with 1800 lines of telegraphed text daily, for an annual subscription rate of 10,000 francs. Other agencies provided features and fiction for their subscribers.[3]
