“While free press release sites are tempting, I’d advise not to use them for distribution. Google has labeled many of them as spam. If you have a good news release that is worth getting out, spend the money and distribute it through a reputable site such as Business Wire, PR Newswire or Marketwired,” comments Sara Callahan, owner of Carter West Public Relations.
Your press release is then posted online and added to an email digest that gets sent to reporters…along with all the other press releases in your industry that were distributed that day. I asked Dan Tynan, former editor of Yahoo! Tech and current reporter for The Guardian, if he ever scrolled through these press release digests.
To close your tour press release, include the contact information of the person (again) in charge of handling press queries about the shows. Make a suggestion of what you want the person to reading the press release to do with this information: If you would like more information, or if you want to interview the band or review the show, please contact [so and so].
Thanks, Kari! You’ve confirmed what I thought. I’m a (very) small business on a shoestring startup (or maybe just baling twine) but with a unique, timely and as far as I know, unheard of product. Waiting to be discovered is a bitch so I want to make some noise that will be heard. As far as one-on-one emails to reporters, do I start at the top with GMA? 😉
The following is a great press release example. It has a sales aspect to it (something you typically want), it’s on a topic that’s worthy of being written about, it reads like an actual article (another key attribute), and it’s got some good quotes in it as well.
What separates i-NewsWire from all the other online press release websites is the impressive listing of all their distribution partnering companies. The channels included on the home page range from RSS feed distribution, search engine distribution, and new sites distribution.
Ideally, if you’re working with a label, you’ll have a publicist who has established relationships with music writers who can make introductions. But at the very least you’ll need a point person, whether a professional public relations person or a member of the band, to handle all media inquiries. It shouldn’t be left to whomever gets the email or has the group cell phone to deal with the press.
After traveling and researching Sephardic history in Spain, Portugal, Peru, and Mexico, all seats of the Inquisition, I’m compelled to share a story about people who were chased around the world for almost 400 years because of what they believed.
I love eReleases. I have found that they have the best results of any service online for the best price. Mickie and his team go above and beyond with customer service and I love that I can see that my release is actually read by members of the media. Thank you for your help in getting our news in fr

To achieve such wide acceptability, the agencies avoid overt partiality. Demonstrably correct information is their stock in trade. Traditionally, they report at a reduced level of responsibility, attributing their information to a spokesman, the press, or other sources. They avoid making judgments and steer clear of doubt and ambiguity. Though their founders did not use the word, objectivity is the philosophical basis for their enterprises – or failing that, widely acceptable neutrality.[1]
I tried PRLog, too, but I got stumped at the verifying the phone number. Does it have only to be US numbers? Thought it doesn’t say anywhere any limitation. But I tried Singapore numbers and the call don’t go through. Please advice. Thank you!
If you want to get news coverage for your business, eReleases has the best track record of generating real interest among reporters that leads to stories and mentions in articles. Their website is full of recent testimonials from companies that have used their service and were able to generate meaningful media coverage as a result.
Nice list but very expensive options for the paid sites. I have used a guy on Fiverr who submitted to some premium press release and news sites at a fraction of the cost and the results were good – http://fiverr.com/datwriterguy.
BriefingWire.com lets you setup multiple Business Profiles which is great for client submissions. In fact, the company profile page provides a dofollow link, even before you submit your first release!
If possible, include a link to an online copy of the same release. It’s good practice to keep a log of all of your press releases housed on your own website. This can make providing such a link easier to produce, as well as keeping a record for historical purposes.
That’s good place to start! I’d recommend looking at boating outlets, with a national audience of boat owners. Build a list of those outlets (magazines, websites, blogs, influencers) and who you’d like to reach out to. See if you can find their email addresses online, and add them to your Twitter lists for regular engagement.
They promise great results, and it is simple to get results when you are assessed at such a price. There are no example releases on the homepage, but there is a list of locations your release will be submitted, including the big news agencies, Huffington Post and the like. This too is a good reason to strongly consider this site for release submission if nothing else. Most of these big media conglomerates like Huffington Post do not accept many submissions, and those that do have a substantial cost. $299.00 may sting, but the benefits may be worthwhile.
As you are not writing to your target audience directly, you need to write your press release in the third person. So “ABC Ltd has signed a £5 million deal with XYZ Ltd” not “We’ve signed a deal with…”
