If you were going to write a press release about your new product, it needs to be newsworthy. In other words, nobody wants to read a press release that just says, “Hey, we made a thing!” Instead, arrange your press release so that it includes the most unique benefits of your new product.
A boilerplate is a short paragraph that explains the identity of a company and what it does. Boilerplate is optional, but it doesn’t hurt to have one to help identify your business. Who – What – When – Where – Why – How. Almost all newspaper stories start off by answering most of these questions. Try to answer these questions in your story. For example: Sherry Smith won first place in the Cutest Pet contest yesterday at Columbia Mall. Check your local newspaper for more examples.

And I’m not alone: many pros in the PR industry are ready to dance on the grave of traditional press release distribution.

In the 1840s, Havas gradually incorporated other French agencies into his agency. Agence Havas evolved into Agence France-Presse (AFP).[4] Two of his employees, Bernhard Wolff and Paul Julius Reuter, later set up rival news agencies, Wolffs Telegraphisches Bureau in 1849 in Berlin and Reuters in 1851 in London. Guglielmo Stefani founded the Agenzia Stefani, which became the most important press agency in Italy from the mid-19th century to World War II, in Turin in 1853.
