So if your story is about the the launch of the first financial planning consultancy for women, say exactly that. Women cash in on financial planning might sound like a better headline, but may mean nothing to a busy journalist scanning their inbox.
Another point. When sending a press release to an editor, the best way to send it by copying and pasting the press release as text in the email. (Never send a press release as an attachment.) Here is the argument against my statement above. I always attach the press release to the email and I’ve never had a problem. My counter argument is, How many times have editors rejected your press releases due to it being an attachment and you did not even know this? Here is why I say put the press release as text in the email and NEVER send it as an attachment to an editor. 1) What program does the editor use to publish their press releases? InDesign or a web program. Translation: The editor or writer has to COPY AND PASTE your press release into another program to get it published. 2) An editor what? Received tons of emails every day. Put yourself in the editor’s shoes. The editor is trying to open and get through hundreds of emails every day. If an editor opens an email and finds text in the email, he/she/trans can IMMEDIATELY READ THE PRESS RELEASE and can decide IMMEDIATELY, if they want to publish it. If the press release is attached as a Word document, the email can easily be ignored or deleted. Also the editor, another writer or graphic designer can copy and paste the press release directly from the email into InDesign or a web program. Or they can copy and paste the press release into their own Word document WITHOUT having to TAKE THE TIME TO OPEN an attachment. Also, a publication might have a policy which DOES NOT ALLOW ANYONE TO OPEN AN ATTACHMENT due to the treat of viruses.
Selikoff also warns against using a canned quote talking about how great your company is. Use a quote that provides some insight instead. It’s also helpful to know some publications’ standards on using quotes from a release. While blogs and very small publications will often use information directly from a release, and re-use quotes you include in the release in their story, major publications most often will not.
I’ll look into Newsline360 as a press release distribution service, thanks for the tip! Does it result in actual news coverage from reporters, or just press release pickups? And does it get your release on Google News?
All of the above examples are just a few; there are and can be other examples as well which fit the description of a press release. You just need to remember this that you should write a press release effectively to make it newsworthy for the purpose of involving media and your target audience.

Some sites tell you exactly how to get your link in the published press release and/or author bio. Some don’t. your release carefully before submitting and make sure to add HTML coding: keyword when necessary.

When you have done something as unique and fun as we did, such as returning the whole rubber duck industry back to America where it began, it’s a cool emotional story that strikes an emotional chord in people regarding US manufacturing and thus gets a lot of attention in the media. In fact the HGTV/DYI/Discover network filmed our N.Y. factory for a show that went out to their 60 million viewer reach in the Spring on making ducks in America!

Press release templates are document models which are used to tell new subjects to the target audience. Overall, a press release is news originating from a business, an organization, a new startup, or an established entity. The purpose of the news story is not to persuade a reader to make a purchase of something at all; rather. You may also see Media Schedule Templates.
prlog is free but it comes with some limitations, can anyone tell me what is the difference between i-news wire with prweb? it seems the first one is in my budget any differences? I like to know which one will help to promote a press release wider?
Now, let’s look at the basic dos and don’ts of writing a press release for an event. Make your PR a cut above the rest. Hubspot also has a good blog on the matter and even offers a recommended press release template.
Press releases aren’t what they used to be. Marketers can’t view them as a vehicle to “get picked up by the Wall Street Journal” and solicit coverage by other mainstream journalists anymore. Social media, direct engagement and curation tools have largely replaced the press release in this avenue. Yet, that doesn’t mean you should turn your back on the press release distribution altogether.
Proximity: As a small business, this one should be easy to understand — proximity matters. For many small businesses or nonprofits, your news will likely matter more to local publications than to national ones, or publications that focus on other regions.
You need to have the theme and anything that is newsworthy summarized very concisely and neatly, Selikoff says. The remainder of the press release is kind of fleshing out the story. But the main story has to get across in the first paragraph.
With free press release distribution services from PRLog, users can take advantage of not only a search optimized webpage and PDF/print version but also search optimized photos, video embedding, and formatting support.

Although your distribution channel is important, the quality of your release is even more so.  Each of the aforementioned resources, include helpful tips on writing eye-catching press releases.  Try out a few of the sites to find the best fit for you and make sure you utilize your social media channels to get the optimal amount of exposure to your press releases for your business.
General news:  announce a general news item to create interest and earn exposure for the company or organization issuing the release.  Example headline:  “ABC Company Wins Customer Service Award Three Years in a Row.”
Annie Jennings: This site has a wide range of media testimonials, although it is light on detail of exactly what you will get for your money, or even how much money you will be required to part with.  The unique angle to this service seems to be a focus on connecting authors with media opportunities, such as TV and radio appearances.
Some sites that promote themselves as free sometimes offer very little for nothing. The free sites frequently do not actually distribute news to media outlets, but only post the release on their website – sometimes for only a limited time. They may urge visitors to pay additional fees to “publish” the press release or to “upgrade” for additional services, such as including live links or posting the release beyond the minimal time period. Some sites merely run advertisements that link to other press release sites.
The body of your press release should stay as concise as possible, while making sure to get all of the important information across in an engaging manner. Reporters that read your release aren’t likely going to have the time to read page after page trying to understand the news.
Thousands of news and releases go live daily. Not every author is aware that the bulk of these PR distributions end up undiscovered by desired reporters. Forbes magazine makes a startling statement. They state that the majority of businesses that publish a press release “wait for the inevitable flood of phone calls, emails and congratulations that never come. Even when they use a service like PR Newswire or Business Wire, many releases end up on page 67 of an independent TV station website in Reno, Nevada that few will ever read.”

Although targeting is important and you should research every reporter you pitch, at the end of the day pitching is largely a numbers game. If your list of journalists to pitch your release to is only 3 lines long and you haven’t built a relationship with any of them yet, you’re unlikely to get any traction unless your news is truly spectacular. Typically, we pitch 20-100 journalists that we research in advance and reach out to individually (NOT in a mass email pitch to everyone at once).
When it comes to content, sometimes old school can be a good thing (namely, when it comes to old school rap or Throwback Thursday on Instagram). But when it comes to your company’s public relations strategy, being old school isn’t advantageous for your business or your brand.
