If you are targeting a press release to a particular journalist or publication, you should consider highlighting information about yourself that you think will appeal directly. The basic principle here is to say “Hi, look, I’m the kind of person your readers would love to know more about.”
We recently used PR Newswire’s services to announce our newly hired Director of Development. Our release was picked up by over 100 online publications. Their services and website are user-friendly, and we were truly impressed by the results. It was definitely worth the investment!
The idea behind this press release was to educate people about a new dating app (small business) as well as empathize with any single person who reads it. We placed a small insert about why we developed the app and let readers know that we too are single and feel what they’re going through.
Trek to Teach is a nonprofit organization that sends fluent English speakers to teach in Nepal near the Himalayas. In addition to teaching, Trek to Teach strengthens local communities by helping schools build infrastructure, paint their classrooms, and find furniture.
Now that we’ve established that press release distribution services tend to provide garbage ROI, let’s talk about what does work: telling interesting stories in a way that’s easy to understand and ties in with company messaging, while providing value to your target audience. This is difficult to say and even harder to do — which is where a PR agency or in-house resource can come in handy.
Part of the body can include different types of media content, such as photos, videos, and audio clips. Be sure to also include the original files so that your media contacts can use these clips if they wish. Media content can help you stand out on both social media and search engines.
The new Chinese line of phones features localized Chinese apps and charts of the most sought-after paid and free apps available in China. The phones also give users access to the world’s largest catalog of apps featuring over 450,000 apps in 30 categories including sports, news, games, business, and travel.
Your press release is a piece of marketing. And like all marketing materials, it needs a call to action. A simple hyperlink to where readers can download, purchase or learn more about your game works best.
“While free press release sites are tempting, I’d advise not to use them for distribution. Google has labeled many of them as spam. If you have a good news release that is worth getting out, spend the money and distribute it through a reputable site as Business Wire, PR Newswire or Marketwired,” comments Sara Callahan, owner of Carter West Public Relations.
Title. Concisely describe what the release is about. For SEO, try to use a client keyword phrase in the title, preferably at the beginning and in place of the business name. “Sunshine Coast IVF” is one of our target keywords. I could have optimized this title further by putting our keyword first with a title like, “Sunshine Coast IVF Clinic Announces Opening Of New Clinic In Buderim.”
Press release terms have you boggled?  Need more help?  Here are a few sites beyond the obvious to help you learn more (or services to hire).  In no way am I advocating hiring someone to do press releases for you, but the rule remains for an entrepreneur:  Learn to do it or hire someone to do it for you.
The question is whether or not you’re targeting publications that would really be a good match for your news story. If so, I would write down a few of the important names and send them a personalized message, in addition to your press release.
While this may seem like a simple approach, it serves a critical purpose. First, it gives journalists something to pull out of your press release and use in publication. Second, it inspires confidence within the people reading your press release.
Thanks for including http://www.prnewswire.com on your list of best press release sites. We’re very glad that we topped the list! I do have one important clarification, however. We have many, many press release distribution options that start at far less than $1000, and still include our huge online distribution network. Our team are happy to talk through the options for reaching key audiences and hitting your objectives – while staying within your budget, even if you only have a few hundred dollars to spend. Thanks!

Really good, clean, crisp, grammatically correct writing is so important in creating a positive impression of your company, says Lauren Selikoff, chief marketing officer for Allison & Partners, which works with Samsung and Michelin and is based in San Francisco. This is not a task to turn over to the intern.
This piece is a unique to a product press release. If you are going to make claims about the product’s effectiveness or desirability, use the middle paragraph of the press release to back yourself up. An excellent way to do this is to include quotes from executives or users, or even to draw in statements made by shareholders.
We recommend eReleases as the best press release distribution service for small businesses because they offer the widest potential distribution for a competitive price. While PR Web distributes your press releases to more websites, eReleases is the only service we reviewed that distributes to the Associated Press’ wire.
Hi Emmy. I just saw your video on marketing. So good! It filled a few gaps I hadn’t covered in my research. But one thing is still blurry to me. I would ask you : Where, in an email to the review sites, should we present the Press Release? Say I write to Toutcharcade. My first thought is I would be personal with them, talking to them about my game, my team… And if so, would I copy paste the Press Release below, in the email? Or are we supposed to place that PR as attachment to the email (just like the screenshots and Youtube trailer). Also is there a particularity that differs a review site to an article site? Many websites seem oriented towards revewing only. I’m guessing we need a different approach with them, without a PR. Sorry for the long post. Thank you!! Dominic
Opening paragraph: The opening paragraph has to be strong and include pertinent information, namely what the press release is about, who it affects, and why they should read or act upon it. If you talk of an event or launch, you also need to mention when it will take place.
With that being said, a few years back, Google started to realize that paid and free press release distribution services were simply being used as a spam tactic, so it has taken a more hardline stance on using them.
At the end of the release, you need to indicate that the release is ended. The usual method of transmitting your release is via fax, and this is the best way to let journalists know they have received the entire release. Type End on the first line after your text is completed. If your release goes over one page, type MORE at the bottom of the first page. Then retype the title and the date on page two, so there is no question which release the second page goes with.
Very nice and relevant post. Can you also explain how to get it published? Do you write keeping a publisher in mind? Or do you write and send to many publishers, to see who is liking the story and ready to publish? Do the publishers charge?
Selikoff also warns against using a canned quote talking about how great your company is. Use a quote that provides some insight instead. It’s also helpful to know some publications’ standards on using quotes from a release. While blogs and very small publications will often use information directly from a release, and re-use quotes you include in the release in their story, major publications most often will not.
This press release from Samsung features their new Smart TV designed to unite entertainment with elegant art display. When a product lands on Oprah’s wish list, the “Oprah Effect” often occurs. By virtue of the TV mogul’s popularity, the product gets instant brand recognition and an increase in sales. Definitely worth a press release, and it’s something that the company can continue to talk about for a long time.
From past experience I know you folks are great! I plan to have my latest book published before the end of this latest BOGO that I purchased. When my book is published I will submit the three releases that I purchased. A-One guidance — always from eRelease staff. Most appreciative.
